Freddie Hubbard died today. He was one of the great jazz trumpet players. He could do things on the trumpet that most players could never dream of. His sound could be piercing and warm at the same time. Freddie was a great innovator, pushing the boundaries of jazz with a goal to create a new sound.
The New York Times obit is a nice tribute to him.
This youtube clip is one of my favorites. His flexibility and grace always baffles me.
